In most region’s there is that one burger joint that stands out, everyone talks about and gets all sorts of foodie magazines and TV shows to make the jaunt to see what the hype is all about. Well in Northern New Mexico, there is such a place, well as of June was a place, The Bobcat Bite. The iconic food establishment that serves the infamous green chili cheeseburger located on the eastern edge of Santa Fe is reeling it in. Reeling it into the the heart of Santa Fe, at the our very own Garrett’s Desert Inn. Expected to open next month, the Bobcat Bite will now become the Santa Fe Bite and will ideally be located in the Garrett’s Desert Inn, within the heart of the Santa Fe plaza. Though after 12 years of undoubted success the Eckre’s have decided to take it to the next level and we are excited to have them join our property.

Not to worry, the menu will remain as famous as before and that green chili cheeseburger will most definitely remain on the menu, accompanied by the world famous flavor you’d expect. The usual steak and delicious fare you have grown to love will also remain on the menu. This year, there will be an authentic Native ceremony of spring corn planting held in downtown Santa Fe. It is a free event and everyone is invited to participate in this very special Native American (Tewa) ceremony.

About the Ceremony

“The corn spoke and we listened. The Spirit of the corn said it must be planted in Santa Fe for all people.” Twenty years ago, the corn spoke to Grey Antelope (T’dohn tsay) a Tewa Native from Kha P’o Oweenge (Santa Clara Pueblo).  “I  am the life of the people”, it said. Grey Antelope started to plant corn around the plaza in Santa Fe. Grey Antelope passed on from this Earth but the corn continued to speak. “Let the kernels of corn carry the voices and concerns of the people to Mother Earth as you plant. In return, Mother Earth will respond with a harvest for all people to see.” Now Grey Antelope’s brother, Cloud Mountain (Okhuwa P’ing) carries on the tradition his brother began. Everyone who attends will have an opportunity to be in harmony and connection with the corn and Mother Earth and to participate in some way.”

In the wake of last weeks shooting tragedy, The Roadhouse comedy Revue will be postponed until February 20th. We will keep you posted if any other changes occur.

Working Classroom presents, Roundhouse Comedy Revue, with the Working Classroom Ensemble theater Company, a national award winning arts and education organization. This third performance of  the Revue gives Working Classroom students a chance to learn more about state government while having the opportunity to poke fun at the  annual legislative session. In addition to the cast, the revue will feature surprise guest star legislators making fun cameo appearances. The Garrett’s Desert Inn, will be offering you a chance for free hotel stays at our hotel during the month of November and December. If you are one of our lucky participants, you will  be offered a two-night stay at the Garrett’s Desert Inn or at any of the other eleven participating Peak hotels. This is in conjunction with the American Red Cross who has already assigned more than 5,000 workers to assist in the affected areas hit by Hurricane Sandy.

“We have been moved by the videos and photographs of devastation that the eastern seaboard, it’s cities and communities have endured this past week, and want to do something meaningful” said Theo Barela, President of Peak Hospitality. “Our Managers were talking about ways to help and thought this is a way for us to get many people involved”.

“While there is little most of us can physically do to help, we know that the American Red Cross is already hard at work but in need of financial assistance to keep the effort going.”

All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross’s Hurricane Sandy cleanup effort. Participants will be entered to win a two night stay at any Peak Hotel. Anyone can enter for the drawings that will be held once per month at the end of November and December. No donation or purchase is necessary, but a $5 donation is requested.
